Our Ministers

Our ministers are Joel René González García MA and his wife, Mayra Gómez Soto de González MA, who is also minister to the Spanish speaking congregation at Cartagena. They joined La Siesta Evangelical Church in July 2007.

Joel was born in Cuba in 1968, the son of an Evangelical Pastor he graduated in medicine, working for six years in various hospitals. In 1998 he emigrated legally to UK, undertaking theological studies in institutions associated with the Universities of Brunel, London and Nottingham graduating with MA degree in Theology and Mission.

As well as volunteer work in a hospice and in a home for the elderly in London and Wales respectively, he lectured in Spanish for two years at Castle College, Nottingham part of Montfort University. Joel is a naturalized British citizen.

Mayra was born in Honduras in 1972, graduating as a teacher after study at the universities of Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula. Thereafter she undertook a further five years of study at the Central American Theological Seminary in Guatamala, graduating MA in Biblical Studies. She has taught in bi-lingual schools as well as in educational organization within the Central American Theological Seminary.

Mayra also served as Chaplain and lecturer in an Evangelical Institute in Honduras. She traveled to UK in January 2004 where she lectured in Spanish and Italian at Castle College, Nottingham part of Montfort University.

In July 2006 she returned to Honduras and worked in San Pedro Sula University until joining us here in Spain.
