Today was Pastora Jeanie´s last service before Pastora Judy takes over on 6 July:
Jesus and his disciples were on the road travelling towards Jerusalem. He knew it would soon be time for Him to be taken up into Heaven. He wanted the people in the next Samaritan’ village to be ready for his visit so he sent someone on ahead to prepare the way.
But….when he arrived, he discovered he was not welcome, because he was going to Jerusalem.

Our sermon today is based in our reading from Luke chapter 8 verses 26-39. Luke tells us how Jesus set about freeing the man possessed by demons. Here we concentrate on the life before and the life after Jesus. Perhaps this will ring a bell with you and maybe encourage you to think of ways in which you could possibly change the way you live?

This morning, we will be hearing a sermon from Tom Davis, Pastora Judy´s husband. It is an interesting take on what is happening to Christianity, or more exactly Christian Nationalism in the world today...........
In a recent New York Times editorial, the author, David Brooks, makes a profound observation about our cultural moment. The author describes how exhausting it is to live in the current political environment in many places, where leaders create a psychological atmosphere that suffuses the whole culture — our airwaves, our conversations, our moods. And then Brooks says, “If there is one word to define this [new] atmosphere, it is “pagan.”

Our sermon today is written by Pastora Jeanie, who is unable to be with us. Today is a very special day in the church’s calendar as it is Pentecost…the day when the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples.
How did Penetecost originate? The feast of Pentecost was held at the end of the wheat harvest, and was a day of joy. It was celebrated fifty days after the Passover. It was also used as a commemoration of the giving of the law, fifty days after the Exodus from Egypt. But we will find out what happened to the Disciples on Pentecost a little later on. Enough to say the readings are full of surprises.
Thank you to Dot Colling for our scripture readings, Bob Wilson for our Intercessions, Brian Todd for reading Pastora Jeanie´s sermon, Uli Doerr for playing the organ, and José Cueto for recording the service. But most of all to Pastora Jeanie for bringing us God´s message for Pentecost Sunday!

Today we will be hearing a sermon by our new Pastora Judy Bors-Davis. She is telling us the importance of unity in the Church Body, both when Jesus prayed and possibly even more today in a world so divided.
According to John’s telling, Jesus turns to God in prayer, pouring out his heart. Jesus knows what’s ahead – these beloved friends will soon betray him, deny him, and desert him. And yet, Jesus prays for those very disciples – those sitting with him that night, and all who would come to follow him in the future, including us.
Unity is Jesus’ hope for us, the Church. He prays that we might share in the same oneness that he has with God the Father. Unity is a reflection of divine love. And the way we love each other is the clearest witness we offer to the world around us. Unity is a gift. It is our calling. And it is our hope.
